Toddlers June 2018

This month will be full of fun for the toddlers!

All this month the toddlers will be learning about colours! We have previously introduced the colour flashcards during group time and the children really enjoyed this activity and showed progress with their colour recognition. To continue with the children interest we will bring in more colours for the children to learn and creating more activities for the children to engage in like colour mixing, colour sorting and colour painting/collages.

Once or twice a month the children will be participating in cooking experiences. We have recently made fruit smoothies and banana muffins which the children loved making and eating. If you have any suggestions on what you might think the children would like to make, please let us know!

Over the coming weeks we will be helping the children progress with their self-help skills. This will include the children getting their lunch boxes for meal times and choosing what they would like to have to eat, applying their sunscreen, choosing what activity they would like to participate in and packing away their plates and water bottles. We will be introducing more versatile sensory activities that explore the children’s five senses as well.

During group time the children have been focusing on learning their colours, counting to 10 and shapes. The children really enjoy counting to 10 and show excitement and interest in this activity. One of their favourite songs now is ‘The Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’ which the children love getting up and dancing to. Also ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ and ‘Freeze Dance’ are always a good way to get the children up and dancing.

Recently we have placed a parent input board above the lockers. It would be great to see if parents could write a comment or a suggestion on what you would like to see the children engage in or learn. As the days are getting cooler please ensure the children have jumpers and shoes in their bags and that all items are clearly labelled with their names.

The Dingle Dangle Scarecrow Song

When all the cows were sleeping and the sun had gone to bed
Up jumped the scarecrow and this is what he said
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this and shake my feet like that.
When all the hens were rousting and the moon behind a cloud,
Up jumped the scarecrow and shouted very loud
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this and shake my feet like that.
