My name is Gwen Laqere and I am the Lead Educator of the Toddler room. I completed my Certificate III first, then went onto study my Diploma in Children Services which I completed in 2014.
I come from a dusty sugar town on the second largest island in Fiji. I am a christian (Anglican) and converted to the Methodist religion when I got married. I first came to Australia in 2010. I lived in Mount Beauty on the border of NSW and Victoria. The first education and child care centre I worked in was Lakeview Child Care Centre, Mount Beauty. I have learned a lot of new experiences. I’m a shy person and sometimes other educators and parents struggle with my Fijian accent.
In coming to Mackay I have learned to speak for myself especially working with some wonderful and awesome staff members at Snugglepot Kindyland. A multicultural centre that has made me feel and respond to a sense of belonging and inclusion. I like working will all children of different cultural backgrounds and act in the best of their interests, respect and acknowledge their decision and also for their families.
